Camilla Rees Presents on Wireless Risks at Metro D.C. MENSA Conference, Calls on MENSA Members to Join the Fight for Safe Technologies
Camilla Rees presented on wireless tech risks Saturday at the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. MENSA conference. Her talk was titled, “The Wireless Elephant in the Room: The Biological and Health Effects of Electromagnetic Fields–and Steps We Can Take to Protect Our Health in a Wireless Age”.
Rees shared many studies with the high-IQ MENSA members showing biological and health risks from non-thermal (heating) exposures to wireless radiation, and mentioned several review studies by the U.S. government showing risk dating to the 1940s. They included studies by NASA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, EPA, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Naval Medical Research Institute, Department of the Army, NIH/DoE, NIH/National Toxicology Program, as well as communication from the Department of Interior to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration indicating present exposure guidelines are outmoded and are inadequate to protect wildlife.
Rees further opened eyes stating that insurance companies have long refused to cover liability for wireless-related health risks. Swiss Re, the second largest reinsurer in the world, Rees said has called 5G mobile networks a “high” and “off-the-leash” risk, indicating claims for health impairments may have a “long latency”.
Rees, a former Wall Street executive, also highlighted the irony that, in the wireless carrier 10k Annual Reports required to be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, radiation from cell phones, wireless technologies and wireless infrastructure is called a “pollutant” and the radiation is acknowledged as a Risk Factor that may result in significant financial losses.
“The carriers are warning shareholders about risks to comply with SEC regulations, but are not warning users of cellphones and wireless technologies, the people living near cell towers, installers of wireless infrastructure, or the millions of businesses, schools and hospitals and healthcare facilities that have installed wireless transmitters that there are very real risks from these exposures”, she said.
“This has to stop. Society needs to be fully informed so steps can be taken to prevent the many illnesses associated with Radiofrequency Radiation–illnesses that are also driving up health care costs and burdening our economy. Hard-wired Internet access networks must be expanded using ‘fiber to the premises’ throughout the country. It is superior technologically, from many different perspectives, as well as the only possible way to close the digital divide”. She summarized the advantages of fiber over wireless with this handout:
Quoting former FCC Chairman, Tom Wheeler, who was earlier also the CEO of the Cellular Telephone Industry Association for 12 years, and previously a big champion of wireless, Rees said Wheeler is now calling for a “fiber first” policy.
Testifying before Congress in 2021, Wheeler said earlier transmission speeds are “completely unacceptable now” and “far from adequate for tomorrow’s usage. “We must insist on ‘futureproof technology’ (fiber)… “Wireless may be a last resort option in the most isolated areas, but it should not be a first resort for most of America…”.
“So WHY then are wireless antennas and cell towers still being rolled out at a ferocious pace if there are health risks and if from a technological perspective wireless is a vastly inferior technology?”, Rees asked.
“Why have phone companies been charging fees on phone bills ostensibly to support fiber, but illegally using the funds instead to roll out wireless across the country, as described in “The Book of Violations & Egregious Acts: Trillion Dollar Broadband Scandal by Kushnick and Rosen“?”
“Who is regulating this industry? Who is looking out for citizens interests? It appears no one is.”, she said.
The Harvard Safra Center for Ethics report, “Captured Agency: How the Federal Communications is Dominated by the Industries it Presumably Regulates” was right, she said. “We have an FCC captured by the telecommunications industry, supporting industry’s commercial, and surveillance, interests, with absolutely no regard for public health, ignoring even the U.S. government’s own research showing an enormous number of serious biological and health effects from Radiofrequency Radiation”.
Rees said, “We should all be asking why the FCC has not responded to a D.C. Circuit Court order from 2021 calling on the FCC to justify the fact that it has not updated its exposure guidelines, especially in light of evidence submitted to the Court in a suit by two non-profits, the Environmental Health Trust and Children’s Health Defense?”
“The Court specifically mentioned evidence for risk provided in the case related to children’s special vulnerabilities, effects from long-term exposures to the radiation, environmental impacts to biological life, as well as new technological developments and the ubiquity of wireless and the fact that cell phone safety testing only seeks to assess potential heating effects from the radiation, when a range of other factors cause very serious biological disruption beyond heating. The FCC exposure guidelines only aim to protect against potential heating effects, and the FCC is completely ignoring other risk factors. These include the frequencies, pulsing, peaks, signaling characteristics, the effects of multiple exposures in real-life environments and the cumulative effects.”
Regarding the FCC’s delay in responding to the Court, Rees said, “It’s pretty obvious, given the abundant scientific evidence, that the FCC is having difficulty justifying not having upgraded its exposure guidelines. It’s clear from the science that its guidelines are wholly inadequate and need to be upgraded to reflect the biological science.”
On a final note Rees said, “As we go into an election season it’s important that we scrutinize candidates as to their level of their commitment to public health, and the degree to which they themselves may be captured by industries”.
“Who is exposing polluting industries and calling out regulators, like the FCC and FDA?”
“Who is courageously taking a stand for our health–and who are the cowards?”
“Who has the potential to ignite real reforms?”
“Who can’t be bought?”
“There is nothing more important than health”, Rees said, “and yet our entire country’s health is being eroded by the wireless trajectory we are on. And DNA is being impacted putting future generations are at risk. Are we going to let this continue, and get dramatically worse as higher and higher frequencies are used in 5G and beyond?”, she asked.
Rees said, “Scientists predict next generation technologies, like 5G, will have massive biological effects because of the vast number of biologically disruptive pulsations. The pulsations will impact brain structure and function, as well as human intelligence, according to Dr. Martin Pall of Washington State University.
“It is ironic, isn’t it, that in order to facilitate ‘Artificial’ Intelligence, by putting up all these antennas, we are blanketing ourselves in wireless radiation that will impair our own intelligence?”, she told the MENSA audience.
