The Austrian Medical Association (ÖAK) Releases Guidelines for EMF Related Illness

The  Austrian Medical Association (ÖAK) has released a consensus paper with guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of what they are calling “EMF syndrome,” or health problems and illnesses related to EMF exposure.

The guidelines can be downloaded here

The guidelines suggest standard diagnostic tests, as well as 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, ECG, heart rate variability testing and measurement of EMF exposure levels.

The exposure thresholds are based on building biology standards and are as follows:

AC Magnetic Fields

Within normal limits < 20 nT or 0.2 mG

Of significant concern > 400 nT  or 4 mG

AC Electric Fields

Within normal limits < 0.3 V/m

Of significant concern > 10 V/m

RF Radiation

Within normal limits < 1 µW/m2

Of significant concern > 1000 µW/m2

The primary treatment recommendation is prevention or reduction of exposure to EMFs.
